Kushal Vyas

PhD Student @ RICE University

Previously: Samsung Research America, Carnegie Mellon University

I’m a second year PhD student at RICE University. working in areas of computational imaging, machine learning, and neural representations for Digital Health. I’m gratefully advised by Ashok Veeraraghavan and Guha Balakrishnan.

I am a seasoned engineer, meticulous researcher, and have previously led research directions and teams through the idea-prototype-product lifecycle. Before Rice, I was a senior ML researcher at Samsung Research America’s Think Tank Team, working in the area of computer vision, machine learning and computational photography. My work in Samsung has been transformative and led to 10+ patents.

My vision is to work towards holistic AI integration in camera technology, explore newer forms of representing information, and work towards AI for health and sustainability.

I obtained my MS in Computer Vision (MSCV) from The Robotics Institute, Carnegie Mellon University. where I worked with Dr. Simon Lucey, and B.E. in Computer Engineering from D. J. Sanghvi College of Engineering, Univ. of Mumbai
